DHARAMSHALA, September 12: His Holiness the Dalai Lama and actor Richard Gere, a long time friend and supporter of the Tibetan cause opened an exhibition, "Tibet: Memories of a lost nation" in Mexico City, Mexico, Saturday.

The exhibition, displayed at the Museum of Memories and Tolerance, showed the "real Tibet under China's occupation" and also highlighted the "time line of the Dalai Lama."
While speaking to an audience of more than 200 guests and media persons at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, the Dalai Lama stressed on the importance of museums in educating people and creating awareness among the masses.
Following the inauguration, the Tibetan leader gave a day-long teaching on "The Eight Verses for Training the Mind" by Geshe Langri Thangpa ((1054-1123) at the Metropolitan Theatre.
According to a report on the official website of the office of the Dalai Lama, more than 3,500 people attended the teachings.
In an interview with Televisa, the largest mass media company in the Spanish-speaking world, the Dalai Lama described Mexicans as “very gentle and nice people.”
Asked about his observation of the situation in Mexico, the exiled Tibetan leader said that “the real picture” in Mexico was different from the media projection of “so much violence in this country.”
“Just a handful of people engage in violence and the rest majority of the people here are peaceful,” the Dalai Lama said.
The 76-year old Nobel Peace laureate who is on his third visit to Mexico had on Friday met with the Mexican President Felipe Calderon.
After Mexico, His Holiness the Dalai Lama is scheduled to travel to Argentina and give a public talk in the capital Buenos Aires, Wednesday.
